Art, Quilts, and Theodore

I think that some of the best and most innovative art comes from people using things from their surroundings that they already have on hand. Case in point: the Quilters of Gee’s Bend, who started their tradition back in the 19th century out of necessity from scraps in their small Alabama town, now have had their work on display in some of the most prestigious art museums around. If you aren’t familiar with the Quilts of Gee’s Bend, you should do a google image search and I have no doubt that you will be completely inspired by their work. Even though they have passed down their tradition for at least six generations, their finished pieces look more like mid century modern art. They are stunning.
